The Power of Words
Our thoughts have no substance until they are shaped into words. Once they become words they are formed together to make statements. And the statements we make create our reality. The Bible says in Proverbs 18:21 that the power of life and death are in the tongue.
We control the power to speak good, and negative words that can block our progress or clear the path to success and happiness. They can deprive us of personal power or they can active it. Words are potent. They are infused with a divine spark. They are a gift from God — tools, which are used to create our reality.
Every time we speak words, we are speaking either life or death to those who hear us and to ourselves. We also must be cautious about the words we whisper under our breath. Our mouth gives expression to what we want, think, and feel. As others listen to you, it shows them a great deal about who you are as a person. The important point is that words are powerful and because we use them, we are powerful. But unless we are aware of their power and their proper use, the power may mistakenly be used destructively. We can learn a lot about ourselves just by listening to the things that we say. Matthew 12:34–35 says that “out of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man from his inner good treasure flings forth good things, and the evil man out of his inner evil storehouse flings forth evil things.” Our words are the result of our inner thoughts and attitudes. Our words can increase or decrease our level of happiness, love, peace and stability in our lives. Not only do words affect our lives, but also in the answer of our prayers which will have a positive or negative effect on our future. We should pay very serious attention to what the Word of God teaches us about the power of our words. When a person isn’t satisfied with the condition of their life, it would be wise to take an inventory of the words that have been spoken. God has a good plan for each one of us, but it won’t automatically happen without our cooperation. We are partners with God in this life, and He wants us to agree with what He has spoken about us in His Word.
